What made the Barbie doll famous?

I understand shes a doll and little girls love dolls, I mean I still love dolls but what made her famous? Im doing a project and cant think of a good answer for this question.

Some people think that Barbie dolls are sexist?

because they promote an unrealistic image of women and don’t allow their children to play with them. Is the entertainment industry also sexist? If so, are movies and television banned in your house as well or is it just a problem with the dolls?

My 29 year old GF plays with Barbie dolls…I don't care but my sister insists this is "weird"…opinions?

My GF and I have been together a year. We have a great relationship, a good sex life and though we’ve had our problems we always have worked thing out. We are both very happy and want to move in together soon.

My GF has a HUGE Barbie doll collection, several Barbie houses and about 100 dolls. She keeps them in an extra "toy" room in her house. She PLAYS with Barbies…no I don’t mean in a dirty way…she plays with them like a little kid. She makes clothing, furniture and houses for them, does their hair, takes photos and makes them look as lifelike as possible. My GF is also is blonde, slim, voluptuous and looks and dresses like a Barbie herself. I never asked her why, I long ago accepted this is what she likes. I have my hobbies, she has hers. I even loan her my woodworking tools and have helped her build some dollhouses. She sells them for hundreds of dollars, not a bad hobby if you ask me!

MY NOSY SISTER claims "A 29 year old woman who still plays with Barbie? No offense, that’s weird. Are you sure she didn’t have some childhood trauma?" THEN she went into a tirade saying my GF is "phony, shallow and obviously obsessed with her looks" and that her Barbie "addiction" must be a sign of some mental illness. My sister knows NOTHING about psychology, is opinionated and can’t come up with a a GOOD reason why Barbie collecting is bad other than, "It’s just NOT normal!" My sister is "worried" about me and thinks I should talk to my girlfriend to "make sure" everything is OK. Keep in mind too as far as I know, my GF has no mental problems, had a normal childhood and just likes dolls. She says her hobby is "fun and relaxing" and until now I never questioned her reasons. As far as her wanting to look like Barbie, she is gorgeous no matter what she wears so again I don’t care!

Does my sister have any valid point here? Should I casually ask my GF "What made you collect Barbies?" and see if there is anything I should know? Or should I just keep my mouth shut and be thankful I have found a smart, beautiful woman who loves me? I fail to see how Barbie is a problem or how it could possibly affect our relationship! Does anyone else think it’s "weird" for an adult woman to play with and want to look like Barbie? Why does my sister have such an issue with this?
She does sometimes appear to "go back into childhood" but she CAN control it….another good side is that kids ADORE her and if we ever had any of our own, she would be a great mom!
Oh yeah….forgot to mention…My sister is plus size, is NOT exactly the Barbie-type when it comes to looks and "might" have a little bit of confidence issues about this. Could this be part of her problem?

How to remove ball-point-pen ink from Barbie doll face?

My daughter put "some make-up" on her all Barbies and other dolls with a black ball point pen. I tried all detergent but it won’t go. Is there any way to remove it?

when you buy your grandchild a Barbie doll do you ever think about?

the cutouts and dolls we had as role models when we were growing up? I had betsy wetsys, Alice a cut-out doll, Little Lulu and Tubby comics….none of them were svelt like Barbie. What toys were your role models?

When your spouse became "weekend" mom or dad, did he/she overdo it?

My wife, from whom I am separated, had our kids for the first time on her own this weekend, and she really went all out. The kids just called me and said that they went to an amusement park, out to eat for every meal (my wife can’t cook and loves deep-fried food anyway), movies, roller skating and Toys R Us (where my son got a drum set — yay for me and our tiny house — and my daughter a Barbie Dream House and several dolls). The kids seemed giddy.

I’m an artist and can’t afford to keep up with that, and I have them M-F, school days, so am supposed to give them consistency — early to bed, healthy meals, homework.

My wife did not bring Krystka, the au pair, so I wonder if she’s being phased out. Krystka came over before and watched "Death Wish II" with me. She called my place "a dump" and promised to come back some time soon and make it better.

I’m just worried about this precedent my wife is setting. Will I be the frumpy, square, frugal parent while my wife gets the glory?

why do my barbies and bratz dolls come to life at night?

This is NOT a dream. I swear i saw it happen, One night i was having pleasant dreams then i felt something touch my leg, I thought it was my cat so bent over to pet him, then like things started climbing up my arms, i ran over and turned on my light and Chole, Jade, Ken, Barbie and Kelly were right there, they said i couldn’t tell anyone,They wanted me to buy like 6 boxes of polly pocket dolls because they wanted revenge, If they found out i was on here they would pick up the barbie dream house and whack me with it in the middle of the night, my mom told me i shouldn’t of bought them for 20 bucks a peice but NOOOO i didnt listen to her.

I found a rare barbie doll, she has a yellow-ish face/makeup?

I found a rare barbie doll at a thrift shop, and I can’t find what kind of doll is it. Does anyone remember a barbie doll that had a yellow-ish face/makeup, she didnt come with any clothes. Looks pretty original.
I have several dolls that I would like to talk to someone about to see what their values are, is there a specialist for that kind of thing?
Thanks!

Is there a doll barbie or similar that allows you dye it's hair?

I have a niece who wants a barbie (she may have been using the term generically to reference any doll) that comes with a hair dyeing kit. I’m not familiar with dolls at all, anyone know what doll this is. It’s her Christmas present and as a good uncle I don’t want to let her down.
